Our new site is live !!

Hey guys, well the time has come to release the new website to you all, I’ve been looking forward to showing you what we have been up to behind the scenes for the past few months. With the finer details almost there, we are ready for you!

We have gone way further than I imagined with our approach for this website, so it’s a little broader than just the blog now!  The new website will use google maps for all of your needs, be it food, accommodation and things to do, and will be updated as we go.

The domain name has now changed slightly from the old website www.whatsonnorthwales.com to the new one : www.whatsonnorthwales.co.uk– we have done this for a few reasons, the main one is to rank higher in google as we are a British based tourism website. By using a “.co.uk. ” google is better positioned to send us the right people, and it means we can rank more effectively in the UK for our topics we write about.

Below is a little intro into the new website layout, and to give you a heads up on how to navigate it. I have summarised it into the main headings on front page.

Begin your journey here

We created this tab for people who are visiting for the first time, new to the area and visitors who need a leg up on travel info. The resources section will be added in due course, when I have a mo!

Great ideas for your holiday

In this section we have split north wales down into its main hot spot areas, Anglesey, Snowdonia, Llyn and Conwy. We have written quite concise guides for each. As we write more articles for you all these will be linked below on each town within the area.

North Wales on video

As the main media type is now moving to video, we have decided to add a video tab to demonstrate all the amazing creators of video in north wales. There are some quite good little flics here in north wales and most of you haven’t seen them yet. There are over 60 videos in so far, juts click on the upper right hand of the screen to scroll through them.

Plan your trip

On the accommodation tab we have partnered with booking.com were you can search all the latest hotels, holiday cottages and b&bs for your stay.

On the food tab, you can search for cafes, restaurants and eats and pubs, the listings are quite comprehensive and should cover most places. Note – I’m not a fan of fast food and have made an effort not to list places that serve rubbish food – only places that serve wholesome great hearty food like the lovely pubs of north Wales, are listed!

The activities tab is dotted with plenty of things to do, on the first version we have included cafes and beaches, as well as all the activities you can do in the area so you can choose between some free and paid things, as well as have an idea where you can get some food and a coffee from too.

There are also tabs for Adventure where we have linked you with some of the more well known adventure providers in the area, through red letter days and experience days. In the future months there will be many more added to this tab for you also. This is just the start.

We have left the old “whats on” tab there for now on the “ plan your trip section” But this has now been superseded by the “ Events “ tab at the bottom right (green.  This is a new event app called Eventon and we are able to get way more information about each event for you on our planner. It should be very useful for you all.

2019  Year of discovery

It is the year of discovery so we have some articles on this tab to represent north wales in this way, we have a set of four blogs in here on varying topics from our North Wales Instagrammers, Unique sleeps, The Wales Way and Reconnect. They reflect areas people are really exploring in general in 2019.

All our latest insta posts are on here now too so you can see north wales in all of its glory! A huge big up to all the local instagrammers in our community who helped make this website with all of their amazing photographs – we have dedicated a page to them here as HUGE thank you !

Big love you the readers

Lastly a warm felt thank you from me (Nick) the creator of whatson, for showing you support on the blog throughout three past three years, The website and blog would not be anything without you the community- so I send me heart felt love to you all for supporting me on my quest to push north wales into the stratosphere and beyond.

We are now growing at a fast pace and I cant wait to push more amazing content at you all, on a platform that is worthy of this beautiful country and its gems. On the inside line I have been hiring writers, designers, web developers, seo people, virtual assistants and more to help push us further towards our goals.

So what we have been working?

Things to come (exciting!)

Ok here is the most exciting part, the site you see now is only 50% finished.

The parts I plan to “bolt-on” this new website, will really deliver you way more in-depth information, content and ways of displaying the content to you all.

We plan to have tabs on the front page on eight different adventure sports which will be our flag ship blogs for say Mountain Biking, SUP’ing, Climbing and Walking. I really want to cover in depth the range of outdoor sports there are here to do and show you all how much you can do here, and more off the beaten track locations to do them in too.

I also plan on opening a online store on here selling various clothing items with some very cool prints, as well as other things. More on that in future..

Other ideas I will bolt- on to the new site…

North Wales Adventure portal – We will be the hub for all things adventure related in north wales and will have a dedicated page to it all that will give you all the best means of finding and booking any adventure in north Wales.

North Wales Boatshed– place people can advertise their boast or marine craft for sale.

Holiday cottages rental portal– A select listing of holiday cottages for rental in the area.

Whatson Classifieds  – Advertise your local business here

Outdoor instructor’s listings classifieds–  A listing of all outdoor instructors, so you can find the right people to coach you in the required activity. We have some of the best instructors in the industry – I want to support them.

Plastic free store– To help push the bar so we can all keep this planet the beautiful living entity that it is.

Online clothing store– with loads of Anglesey and north Wales cosy hoddies, T – shirts, and more

Way more digital Maps– for everything you can think of!

North Wales Wellness– A part of our site dedicated to the more tranquil things, mediation yoga, retreats, green living, wild living, outdoor living, forgaing, bush craft, mindfulness, outdoor time, veggie food, wilderness therapy and consciousness (I LOVE this stuff!) I can can channel loads of goodies here for you all, who want to delve into these topics.

Personal development portal to coach young Welsh entrepreneurs  –Those of you who know me know how much of a passion this is to me, I want to see young welsh Entrepreneurs crushing it and using their valuable gifts to push our amazing country forward and fast.

Charity and Philanthropy –We want to push charity’s that resonate with us and serve our community and make sure they get exposure they deserve. If you see a charity that we have promoted, note that it is because we have a great affinity for it. A big part of my life is giving, we want to push this out a bit more.

The big one to come is our “ Tourism brochures “ section – This one is been a tough nut to crack but we are working on it hard right now, there will be a part of the website dedicated to the tourism brochures you normally find in north Wales..

What’s staying the same

All our social channels are staying exactly the same the only difference is that you will see is our website which will be now the new domain www.whatsonnorthwales.co.uk instead of www.whatsonnorthwales.com.

The old website will stay there for the future as we are in the process of migrating all our traffic to the new website.

So all that is left for me to say, is a heart felt thank you to those who helped me (All our Instagram community) –( see the BIG UP to them here) and to all the virtual team (Reezalaq, Sofia and many more others who have put in a serious amount of hours with me )

Front Cover Issue 139: Phil Boyd (@phillboyd_outwest)

Hope you all enjoy the site and it provides you with way more help, value and service moving forward.

If you have ideas on what you want on the site- shout it load to me here, we love to hear what you guys want, its why I do this. Tell me your conundrums, likes, dislikes and wants anytime – as its all valuable feedback to make us a better community. Nick
