So with the entire world on lockdown right now, it might be a good time for us all to reflect on a few things and check in with our inner self to keep us balanced and in a state of calm. Amidst all the noise and fear thats going on around us, its important we stay positive, happy and relaxed in a state of flow. Even though there is a sea of turmoil going on in your outer world, you need not be consumed by it. Let me give you all some ideas on how to weather this storm from the inside out.
The importance of quiet inner strength, is something that’s vastly understated in a world full of ego and haste. Having a sense of knowing that you can weather any storm that arrives on your shores is an important knowing that will keep you from the grip of fear and paralysis in more intense situations. For a few years I’ve been watching and learning, how success was built within our forefathers who achieved greatness, the likes of Emerson, Churchill, The Dalai Lama, Ghandi, and Tesla. Each of these characters had a fortitude and discipline that helped make them who they were. Success, resilience and greatness, is not built fast like the world would have you believe, its built slowly with habit and discipline daily.
Habits are what made these people who they where, whether you believe it or not. Daily rituals gave these leaders the skills and focus to create works of mastery in the world in their fields. These habits also made them resilient to outside circumstance and events that would pull normal unseasoned folk, off track. A tight bubble of mental focus is required to weather any storm and keep calm and balanced. Balance and all are required within us all so that we can be pleasant to our fellow man and stay in a positive giving energy rather than one of self and fear.
A set of morning practices will help you greatly in achieving this level of balance and removing the things from your life may help to. Here is what the greats all do daily, first thing in the morning to keep themselves bullet proof and calm through their day. I practice this routine daily and it has helped me in earnest over the past week. Don’t get me wrong, its been a wobbly week, but, I can quite quickly auto correct my mental state and get back on track and get back to being positive as usual.
Here is my morning ritual, that will keep you mentally focused, strong and positive:
-Wake up at 5 am with the sun
–Exercise hard for 20 minutesstraight, use resistance weights or pull up bars or what ever you can get hold of. It’s important to get a sweat on and breathe deep.
-Then I spend 20 minutes doing some gratitudein my “five minute journal” then I mediate to Deepak Chopra and quiet my mind
–Next I send 20 minutes Journaling, planning my day,hydrating, and listening to something positive and learning.
– Between 6 and 7am.
–Listen to a podcast,audio book or video of my choice, that will aid me becoming smarter in my areas of interest.
–Morning affirmations(By John Asaraff), then I look over my goals and vision and reflect on it.
–I then journal a littleon any blocks I have or hurdles that I’m facing, this gets them out of my head and int the physical world, where I can tear them apart a little to realise their insignificance- and also to how I can solve these issues.
In essence this is it, simple right? You would thing that exercising, practicing some gratitude and meditating would have such an effect but it does. Trust me. This came from me reading the book, the 5am Club by Robin Sharma. It changed my life.
The reason I tell you all of this, and I’m aware it may seem little “off topic” for whatson, but its not actually. Most people live very fast crazy lives and come to our part of the word to find solace, relaxing and beauty within nature. But when this is removed as a possibility, where do they turn? They should turn to this practice. It is both one and the same. Your inner calm is governed by you, not the outside world. We must take back control.
Here are a few things toremove from you daily habitsthat will be causing you harm, whether you realise it or not.
The negative fear mongering media (News, news papers, radio etc) – find a positive information source instead and Wien yourself off this garbage once and for all and cultivate selective ignorance of the information you listen to, and only allow in positive information into your filed. Most are addicted to the media because of the brain bias to survival (needing to hear any bad news) and they don’t even know it.
Low vibe people– You are the average of the five people you spend your time with. Surround yourself with positive sorts, even if its on social media or by phone. Rid your selfs of energy vampires!
Alcohol– Yes a dram and a glass of wine are good but over consumption leads to toxicity in the body, which will knock your metal state. Keep you vibe high by keeping your body clean.
Being lazy – Be proactive instead, set goals, find things to do, help people and figure out fun things to do for you and your family. Stay focused on tasks you can do, to help you and the wider world.
Caffeine– I don’t know about you but for me coffee sends me into a neurotic state, I cant consume until around 4pm in the day, or my focus just goes to the wall. Caffeine puts your body on attack mode, hightens cortisol and makes us feel more wired and stressed. This response, can harm your metal state and make you more panicky. Stick to the green teas or herbal teas maybe for now.
Here are a few things to add to your daily habitsthat will bring you joy.
Laugh!– What ever it is for you, find something that makes you laugh.. for me, its videos like ” Cats Vs Cucumbers” or other more silly things on Youtube. It matters not but find a way to laugh.
Gratitude – Make a list of 20 things your grateful for daily, down to the smallest detail and just pause for a moment, and realise how LUCKY you are to be alive on this planet. You are a miracle and don’t even know it. Do you also know that no matter what your living standard, you are living a more affluent life than kings did just a few hundred years ago. Be thankful.
Give – How can you help someone today, what can you give and how can you serve someone in your circle or beyond. The secret to living is giving. When you help someone or give, your brain will flood your body with a sea of feel good chemicals and hormones to reward you. I set an notification alarm in my iPhone (which just went off at 10:45am) as I’m writing this for you all, and this is part of my giving and service daily to life.
Solitude – Take time out of it all for 30 each day and have some time in solitude, where you can sit in nature, maybe journal you thoughts, ideas and get out any concerns you have from your mind onto paper. It removes some of the noise from your mind and privets you with some calm.
Lastly this a poem by Rudyard Kipling– its my brother favourite. Its very apt for times like these and I feel it would be good to read, to keep you all balanced and positive. Stay balanced in your days, find happiness and bestrong. Sending you all my love and thoughts. This will all be fine and it will pass.
